Inside the Mind
of a Stalker

Motivations and Threat Assessment of Domestic and Stranger Stalkers

 

This seminar is designed for practitioners in psychological services and criminal justice agencies interested in better understanding the etiology and prediction of dangerousness of stranger and domestic stalking. Participants explore the mindsets and behaviors of stalkers as well as victim-offender relationships. Using case studies, participants explore the process of threat assessment and problems faced by professionals in handling offenders and protecting victims.

Course Objectives: To provide an operational definition of stalking as well as an overview of the prevalence and incidence of stalking crimes in the U.S. . To explore the etiology and role of stalking behavior as a crime that precipitates the commission of violent crimes. To understand the development and role of fantasy in stalking and criminal conduct in both domestic and stranger stalking. To examine the emergence as stalking as predatory offender, offender classification, victim-offender relationship and modes of victim assistance. To assist practitioners who work with potentially dangerous clients and patients in determining threat assessment and to explore intervention strategies.
